You never know who is watching you…
I don’t mean in an awkward, weird way. I mean that there may be people who look to you for approval or as an example to follow. They notice what you wear, what you say, your body language, how you behave and much more. Your standards should always be high, even in times when we think we’re all alone, or when it’s just not our day. We may then put a few things that would normally be priorities aside.
We must always be thinking, “would I want so and so, who’s younger than me or a baby in Christ to do this because I did it?” Younger youth look up to the older youth for direction, and the youth of all ages look up to the ministers for direction. Whether we like it or not, we will all influence someone, maybe even many people.
Some things to think about:
- Could my actions be a stumbling block to others?
- Am I doing something that could potentially lead others away from the Lord?
- I need to be a light and shine in the direction of Jesus and set a standard of holiness at all times.
In all parts of your life, reflect Him; even in the private parts where you think no one may see, because God sees. He sees our thoughts, motives, and those times when “Oh no one from church will see me today, so I can do this,” and “I don’t have time for prayer and devotion this morning, I’ll just skip it.” He sees it all. There is nothing you can hide from Him. He has been there and done that, bought the T-shirt, and our sins.
He is God. He reigns above all. If the rocks cry out and the winds obey him, then how much more should we have a passion and a love to seek His face and to walk with Him? We are not guaranteed tomorrow. No one knows the time or the hour when the Son of Man will return. So we should always be prepared and in the right mindset.
Not only do fellow church people watch us, but people at school and at work are watching as well. We should constantly be reflecting God’s love. Who knows when an opportunity to share the gospel will come along and because we are not in the right mindset, we will miss it, and a soul will miss out on an eternity with Jesus. I don’t want to be responsible for souls going to hell because I didn’t want to be that different from everyone else, or because I just didn’t feel like it that day. We will all be judged by God one day. I don’t know about you, but on judgment day, I don’t want to see a soul that I could have reached be sent to hell. I will not let someone look at me with tears in their eyes saying, “Why didn’t you tell me?! Why didn’t you do something?!” If this becomes our everyday mindset, our eyes will be opened and we will start to see the revival that God prepared for us.
“And so, dear brothers and sisters, I plead with you to give your bodies to God because of all he has done for you. Let them be a living and holy sacrifice—the kind he will find acceptable. This is truly the way to worship him. Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.” Romans 12:1-2 NLT
