Revelation from God

Revelation from God

1. Understand the Nature of God:

  • Realize that God is Light! Revelation is nothing more than God’s light shining into areas of understanding that were previously darkened.
  •  From the very creation story we can see that it is His will to bring light where darkness dwells. It is God’s will for you to have revelation so that He can illuminate every dark area, including our understanding. Since darkness and light cannot dwell together, when God comes near, He always brings illumination and revelation. We are admonished in 1 John 1:7 to walk in the light.
  •  Although He will not explain everything He does to us, His will being accomplished depends on us having a certain amount of revelation or understanding. Therefore, it is God’s will for you to have revelation.
  • Approach Him with confidence in prayer, knowing that He delights to illuminate darkness!

“For this reason, since the day we heard about you, we have not stopped praying for you. We continually ask God to fill you with the knowledge of his will through all the wisdom and understanding that the Spirit gives, so that you may live a life worthy of the Lord and please him in every way: bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the knowledge of God, being strengthened with all power according to his glorious might so that you may have great endurance and patience, and giving joyful thanks to the Father, who has qualified you to share in the inheritance of his holy people in the kingdom of light.” Colossians 1:9-12 NIV

2. Understand the Reasons Why a Person Does Not Receive Revelation From God:

  • It may not be God’s time for you to have revelation in a particular area, but rest assured, He does want you to receive it in His perfect time. Keep yourself humble and open before God.
  •  You may not have done anything with the revelation He has already given you. It is human nature to pick and choose what we like. We turn up our noses at some things and gladly receive others. This does not work with God. If He has revealed something to you, you can rest assured that it is exactly what you need. We cannot be like spoiled children who may push the things they don’t like to the side of the plate and only eat the things that appeal to our appetites. God will expect us to clean our plates before He offers another course. This is only proper since He knows exactly what we need.
  •  God doesn’t waste anything, including His revelations. We are told in scripture to be good stewards of what has been entrusted to us already before asking for more. If we invest what God has given us, the parables of Jesus make it plain that He will entrust us with more.

“All of us, then, who are mature should take such a view of things. And if on some point you think differently, that too God will make clear to you. Only let us live up to what we have already attained.” Philippians 3:15-16 NIV

This passage is simply telling us to walk in what God has already shown us, and then He will begin to clear up the areas that we do not have clarity in yet. Revelation continues or ends at your last point of obedience. Simply put, obey what God revealed to you last, and then He’ll reveal some more!
