Buckleys square_Tired of all the drama around you? The Bible offers a surprising solution.

“How wonderful it is, how pleasant for God’s people to live together in harmony! … That is where the Lord has promised his blessing – life that never ends.”  Psalms 133:1,3b GNB

The King James Version of the Bible translates the word harmony as unity. I knew there was power in unity – both good and bad. The Upper Room and the Tower of Babel both illustrate the power of unity for good (or not!) however I didn’t realize there is also peace and divine blessing in unity.

Verse 2 and the beginning of 3 describe how wonderful it is to live in harmony – and it is. When you think about it, when people say they are tired of all the drama, what they mean is they want peace in their life or harmony / unity.  So unity not only brings God’s power but sweet peace and a cessation of drama, and as an added bonus God’s blessing. How like God; He always gives pressed down, shaken together and running over. Peace, blessing and power await us when we live in unity with each other.

Of course the road to unity requires submission which many find tough to swallow. Look at the payoff though – exactly what they have been longing for – peace. No drama. It reminds me of the vile tasting cough and cold medicine called Buckley’s Mixture. If you have ever tried it, you know their slogan, “It tastes awful, and it works” is true. Their website actually advertises, “When it comes to being sick, there are two kinds of people in this world, those who want comfort and those who want to get better. We make medicine for the second kind.”

If you are suffering from too much drama in your life, the Buckley’s solution of submitting one to another may be the road which leads you to sweet peace. – Colleen Biermann
